Peach County starts petition for instant replay

FORT VALLEY, Ga. -- A controversial call in the 3A state championship may have cost Peach County High School a state championship on Friday and the community knows it. In the fourth quarter, Peach County looked to complete a pass on fourth down and eight to move the chains and get a first down. However, one official saw differently and called the play an incomplete pass, forcing a turnover on downs and handing Calhoun the ball. The play has since garnered national attention and "Peach County" was trending on Twitter yesterday afternoon.

The Trojans lost the game 10-6 to Calhoun to finish second in the state.

As a result, some number of people have started to sign an online petition to ask the GHSA to overturn the incomplete pass and allow video replay in future GHSA state championship games.

"We are asking that the Executive Committee of the Georgia High School Association overturn the officiants ruling on the play," says the petition, "and allow that instant replay be admissible in High school championship games."

As of 6:00 PM, more than 6,700 people had signed the petition. There has not yet been any official statement from the GHSA on the play or the petition.
