Southwest's BJ Sharpe inks with FVSU Football
The stranglehold Westside Football had in Bibb County seemed to loosen significantly this season.
After an upset win over the Seminoles in Week 2 of the 2016 High School Football season, BJ Sharpe and Southwest put themselves back on the map.
Friday afternoon, the superstar defensive end capped his incredible high school career signing with Fort Valley State University.
"It was a good journey," Sharpe said. "I had the ups and downs but it's part of recruiting so it's been a big journey."
Sharpe was hoping to pick a school on National Signing Day, but chose to wait to seek out his options. He eventually chose his mother's alma mater at Fort Valley State, joining up with former Patriot teammates Stacy Ivy and Zaquan Baldwin.
"I'm very excited for him and his family," said Southwest Head Coach Joseph Dupree. "He was patient and his family was very patient. This day finally came and I'm just excited for the family."
Sharpe led Southwest to their first state playoff appearance in school history in 2016. Sharpe will be a big addition to Kevin Porter's Wildcats who claimed the SIAC title this past year.
