Mayhem look to use defense and speed to get past Ice Flyers
MACON, Ga. -- One round down, two more to go for the Macon Mayhem to bring home the President's Cup. First things first, the blue sweaters have to take care of business in round two of the SPHL playoffs. That is easier said than done as the Mayhem face the defending league champion Pensacola Ice Flyers in the semifinals starting Wednesday night in Florida.
The Mayhem need two wins to take the three game series, that starts with tightening up the defensive zone and using their speed to their advantage.
"You saw it in that first round really just getting pucks out of their own zone and getting in transition on offense," said voice of the Macon Mayhem Erik Evenson. "This is a team with a lot of speed and they want to try and use that against Pensacola and they have some bigger defensemen, but like I said try to get those pucks out defensively and use that speed in transition I think can create a lot of goals."
The league also announced on Tuesday that Jake Trask was named the SPHL player of the week after a solid first round series with two goals in the series against Columbus.
