Braves' Freeman targeting July 6 return
ATLANTA, GA -- Braves all-star first baseman Freddie Freeman could be back on the diamond as early as July 6.
Freeman was told by team physician Dr. Gary Lourie his left wrist is 80-90% healed following a CT scan, up from 50% last week.
The slugger fractured his wrist after being hit by a pitch on May 17 in an 8-4 win over Toronto. Originally Freeman was expected to miss 8-10 weeks while targeting a July 14 return.
The all-star hopes to begin a three to four game rehab assignment next week.
Prior to his injury, Freeman was off to a blistering start to the 2017 season hitting .341 with 14 home runs and 25 RBIs. Recently Freeman has expressed interest in playing third base when he returns to the lineup due to Matt Adams' production in his absence.
