Macon native Henley finishes strong at British Open
SOUTHPORT, UK -- After a tough third round in which he shot five-over par, Macon native and Stratford Academy alum Russell Henley scored a three-under 67 in the final round of the British Open at Royal Birkdale to finish tied for 37th.
Four birdies and a bogey helped catapult Henley from 67th place to 37th when the tournament finished up on Sunday. Henley finished two-over par for the tournament.
Henley has had a nice 2017 season so far, winning once at the Shell Houston Open in April and tying for fifth at the Greenbrier Classic earlier this month. He has also had a solid showing in majors, placing tied for 11th at the Masters in April and tied for 27th at the U.S. Open in June.
The Macon native has less than a month to prepare for the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 7.
