New Atlanta Braves Executive Vice President and General Manager announced
ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Atlanta Braves have named Alex Anthopoulos as its new Executive Vice President and General Manager, according to a release from the Atlanta Braves Baseball Club.
The release stated that Anthopoulos has agreed to a four year contract through the 2021 season.
Atlanta Braves Chairman and CEO Terry McGuirk stated that “The past few months have been the toughest in our storied history. We are excited to have Alex lead our baseball operations team and begin a bright, new chapter for our organization. We chose Alex because he is of the highest character and has a wealth of MLB leadership experience. He is one of the elite baseball executives in our industry and is the perfect person to lead us to a World Series.”
Anthopoulos was the Toronto Blue Jays' general manager for six seasons and was chosen as Sporting News' MLB Executive of the Year for the 2015 season. He started his career in baseball in 2000 as a media relations intern with the Montreal Expos.
