People in Hancock County are continuing to challenge whether certain electors live where they say they live.
The Hancock County Board of Elections heard around 45 challenges from citizens Thursday.
The people bringing the challenges before the board said that certain people registered to vote in Hancock County actually live at a different address. Therefore, it was argued, they shouldn't be allowed to vote in the upcoming Sparta City election.
Elections supervisor Tiffany Medlock said that these challenges could really change the course of the election.
"A lot of voters are actually calling to say they no longer wish to be on the list, so now we are having people coming off the list who no longer want to vote," she said. "It'll probably affect the city of Sparta's election in a major way."
Thirty of the 45 challenges passed at a hearing on Thursday night, meaning they must now appear before the board to defend their residency status.
The board will notify the people challenged and they will have to appear before the board to defend their residency status at a hearing on October 5th.
