Voters in Georgia will decide on the person they want to lead our state's public schools on November 8th.

On the ballot for State School Superintendent are Republican Incumbent Richard Woods and Democrat Alisha Thomas Searcy.

As part of our Election Coverage, our newsrooms in Macon, Albany, and Savannah, Georgia, are going Beyond the Podium, offering the candidates in Georgia's top races the chance to speak exclusively to our teams on some of the most important issues facing Georgia today.

Republican Incumbent Richard Woods sat down with our team and answered five questions on wide-ranging topics.

  1. Changes have been made to state testing. Are we at a good place or should more changes be made?
  2. Are more changes needed to ensure the safety of our students while at school?
  3. Teacher shortages are well documented. Are we doing enough to recruit teachers and what else can be done to retain them?
  4. Do you believe parents are involved enough in their child's education?
  5. Looking back at the pandemic, would you change how we handled the response in terms of education?

We will be publishing Woods' responses, unedited and uncut.
