WGXA to bring Jefferson Awards to Macon

Jefferson Awards / WGXA

MACON, Ga. -- WGXA Macon is proud to announce we are bringing the Jefferson Awards to Middle Georgia.

The Jefferson Awards for Public Service is a national program that recognizes and promotes volunteerism both locally and nationally. Founded in 1972 by Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis, U.S. Senator Robert Taft, Jr., and Sam Beard to establish a Nobel prize for public service.

“In our own community, we’ll seek nominations for volunteers and highlight one person each month who demonstrates the values of giving and public service. In March we’ll choose from those monthly winners and send one representative to Washington D.C. for the National Awards each June.” – Karen J. Lincoln, WGXA General Manager

From the Jefferson Awards Foundation:

We Power Those Who Change the World

We believe in public service. Not just because it improves communities, but because it changes the lives of those who participate. It offers leadership skills that propel success in school and throughout life. We believe so strongly in the power of public service that we promote it every way we know how. We honor outstanding Americans who are making a difference with Jefferson Awards, inspiring others to act. We help companies engage their communities and celebrate their employees who give back. We also provide young people with the tools they need to make the difference they seek. Our mission is to power others to have maximum impact on the things they care about most.

It’s our hope that every American will realize their potential to impact lives, and in the process, improve their own. Public service is the pathway to stronger communities and self-fulfillment – and we’re here to build it.”

On the webpage, we’ll feature the stories of past winners, and provide a link for nominations.

We feel the staff and volunteers of the many public and private service agencies in Middle Georgia deserve recognition for their daily efforts, and WGXA is proud to bring this chance for national recognition to our community.

Nominations are open to everyone and we look forward to working with our local agencies to find those hidden heroes, working tirelessly to benefit those around them.
