STATESBORO, Ga. (WTGS) — The Statesboro Police Department's ( SPD) Impact team arrested 13 people in an undercover prostitution operation.

The SPD says over the last two days the Impact Team, along with detectives and patrol officers, conducted an undercover operation designed to identify and arrest prostitutes and their potential clients at various motels in Statesboro.

Pandering is the solicitation of sexual services for money by a potential client or “John” and prostitution is the sale of sexual services for money.

The SPD says investigations by detectives over the past several years have indicated that prostitution in the area was a contributing factor in several robberies and at least one homicide. Reverse operations of the kind conducted over the past two days hopefully serve to deter prostitutes and their clients from participating in activities that can lead to more serious crimes.

During SPD’s two day operation, all prostitutes contacted were screened for signs of being trafficked, with no trafficked persons being identified, according to the SPD.

The following individuals were arrested during the operation:

  • O’Darien Baldwin, 18, of Statesboro; one count of prostitution
