19-year-olds found with stolen gun in Crawford Co. face more charges

CRAWFORD, Co. -- The two 19-year-olds caught with a stolen firearm and pill bottles in Crawford Co. last week are now facing additional charges.

Gage Thomas of Butts Co. and Alexander Griffin of Henry Co. were charged with one count of theft by receiving stolen property last week.

Crawford Co. Sheriff's Office said Monday the two men have been additionally charged with the following:

  • Three counts of entering automobile with intent to commit a theft
  • Two counts of criminal trespass
  • One count of theft by taking from the Roberta Police Department

On Thursday, the Crawford County Sheriff's Office discovered a firearm that had been reported stolen during a traffic stop around 5:10 a.m.

According to a release from the sheriff's office, a deputy was patrolling Georgia Hwy. 128 when he noticed a green sport utility vehicle with its headlights off. During the traffic investigation, the deputy discovered the firearm, pill bottles and a purse that was recovered before the items were reported stolen.

Friday, Thomas and Griffin appeared before Magistrate Judge, Cary Hays for their first appearance hearing. Bond was denied.

The investigation is still ongoing.
