MACON, Ga. (WGXA) -- If you have too much to drink at the Memorial Day barbecue but you need to get your vehicle home, AAA has your back this weekend with the Auto Club Group's Tow to Go program.

“By providing this program, AAA gives drivers no excuse for driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol or impairing medications,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “However, we remind people to treat Tow to Go as a last resort. Instead, make advanced plans for a safe ride home, because you do not want to be remembered on Memorial Day as the person who made the fatal mistake of driving impaired.”

The free service offers tows for AAA members and non-members alike within a 10-mile radius of where the call is made, beginning on Friday evening at 6:00 until Tuesday morning at 6:00.

Tow to Go is intended, though, as a safety net for those who didn't plan ahead or whose plans changed during the night and it is always better to choose a designated driver before heading out for the evening.

In some situations, AAA may need to find another way to get someone a safe ride home and Tow to Go may not be available in rural areas or during severe weather.
