NORTH MONROE COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA)- Tonight, residents of north Monroe County are under a boil water advisory after the Monroe County Board of Commissioners received state approval to use a creative plan to avert a water crisis.
Commissioners say the Georgia Environmental Protection Division allowed Monroe County Emergency Services to use two City of Forsyth fire engine hoses to transfer water from Forsyth to the county’s northern water system.
Butts County Water and Sewer Authority usually serves that part of Monroe County.
However, it could not continue to do so following a water leak that started over the weekend.
While the water will continue to be pumped into north Monroe homes, those who live in the areas of Johnstonville Rd. and north should boil water to cook, drink or prepare food.
Northern neighborhoods and subdivisions who get their water from the City of Forsyth (such as the Riata, River Forest, and River Walk) are excluded from the advisory.
