MACON, Ga. -- Bibb County coroner Leon Jones said officials are investigating a homicide that happened Thursday.
Chief deputy coroner Lonnie Miley confirmed it was Macon's second homicide of 2019. The victim, 21-year-old Deshafore DeAndre Hicks, died from a gunshot wound, Miley said.
Investigators said it happened in the 700 block of Villa Crest Ave. and that Hicks died at the scene.
"Any homicide is too many," Miley said. "Any time we have a death of someone who's died senselessly, it is a tragedy."
Hicks' family told WGXA they were shocked by his death.
"I just can't understand for somebody to stand over him and do it, like, what for? What reason? That's all I want to know. What was the reason to do it? Like, you're tearing up our family, you took someone from us," Zequila Martin, Hicks' cousin, said. "This is getting out of control. This is just too much. We're losing people everyday to gun violence. For what reason?"
Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to call Bibb County investigators at 478-751-7500 or report a tip anonymously through Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
