BSO: Macon woman caught with stolen car tries to hand off keys to deputies
MACON, Ga. - Bibb County sheriff's deputies arrested a Macon woman after finding stolen electronics, fraudulent driver's licenses and more while searching for a stolen vehicle.
A sheriff's report says that on April 20, two deputies responded to reports of a Volvo stolen out of Florida at a Flash Foods on Mercer University Dr.
The deputies met up with 29-year-old Chanel Houston at the scene, who claimed that a friend had rented the vehicle from Sixt Rent A Car out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Houston reportedly told the deputies that she'd just dropped off her friend, didn't want to get anyone in trouble and tried to hand over the keys.
The report says that Houston also claimed she didn't know where the rental contract was but that she and friend paid to get the car. She also told deputies that she left her driver's license at home.
Sixt Rent A Car contacted one of the deputies and sent a copy of the driver's license used to rent the car, which showed Houston's photograph on another person license.
According to the report, Houston was taken into custody at that point. A search revealed another fraudulent Georgia driver's license and two credit cards in other names.
After searching the car, deputies found a laptop, cell phones and a luggage bag with a pink notebook full of credit card numbers, user names and passwords for several accounts, the sheriff's report says.
Houston was taken into investigation and then transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center where she was booked on one count of theft by receiving stolen property (auto), one count of identity theft fraud and two counts of financial transaction card fraud.
