Byron police: Daycare worker hits child, puts them in closet

BYRON, Ga. -- Byron Police Department arrested 32-year-old daycare employee Kellie Matthews after allegedly hitting a child and putting them in a closet.

A release says that on April 16, officers went to the Agape Way Daycare located at 100 West White Rd. because of a complaint against Matthews.

Officers interviewed children, parents and staff and reviewed security footage from the daycare, the release says.

After their investigation, officers got a warrant for Matthews, who was the lead worker for the 3-4-year-old classroom.

Matthews was charged with two counts of simple battery and turned herself in on Wednesday, May 16. The release says she's been given a $2,000 bond.

Investigators found that there were two juvenile victims in this case.
