Cordele Police Department receives 10 bulletproof vests through equipment donation program
CORDELE, Ga. -- Through their equipment donation program, the United States Deputy Sheriff's Association (USDSA) has awarded the Cordele Police Department with 10 bulletproof vests.
The USDSA is a nonprofit organization that offers training and an equipment donation program to law enforcement agencies across the nation.
The organization's equipment donation program provides necessary items at no cost to underfunded departments.
In November 2017, the Cordele Police Department submitted an application to receive 10 bulletproof vests. Later that month, the department discovered that they would be awarded all 10 vests for their agency.
Chief Rob Rodriguez said, "We are extremely humbled and honored to be selected by the USDA to receive this donation. These vests are life saving pieces of equipment that law enforcement offers across this country need every day. As a leader, I recognize the importance of having these vests for our officers. We recently had an incident where one of our officers was shot at during a traffic stop. Although, with budget cuts, constraints, and the demand for a greater level of service with limited funding we have to find alternative funding options. The USDSA equipment donation program is absolutely wonderful."
