Deputies: Child shot, killed in accidental shooting, grandmother arrested

UPDATE (9 a.m. Saturday) - Investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office say the 4-year-old killed Friday night in Macon accidentally shot himself.

Deputies tell WGXA News their investigation shows the child found a gun inside the apartment, reportedly brought in by two teens that live there. The two teens, ages 14 and 16, were interviewed and later released into the custody of their family.

The child's grandmother, 50-year-old Kawana Liggins was arrested following the shooting and faces charges of tampering with evidence.

The shooting remains under investigation. Additional charges are pending.

MACON, Ga. -- Coroner Leon Jones confirms a 4-year-old child was killed from a gunshot wound at a Macon apartment complex.

The shooting happened at the Pendleton Home Apartments at 3401 Houston Avenue just after 8:30 p.m. The child was staying at his grandmother's house says Jones.

It was reported that the child was transported by private vehicle to the hospital for treatment, where he was later pronounced dead at 9:21 p.m.

Coroner Leon Jones reports the next of kin has been notified of the death. The victim is identified as Kameron Ross, of Warner Robins, who would have turned 5-years-old this December.

The circumstances surrounding this incident are still being investigated.
