Crews assessing heavy storm damage in south Macon
MACON, Ga. -- South Macon is left damaged Thursday after severe storms -- and possibly a tornado -- hit middle Georgia Wednesday night. Crews are working now to officially confirm if a tornado struck the area.
We first reported how Gateway Fellowship church on Skipper Rd. in south Macon had part of the roof from its front awning and gym ripped off by high winds. This as 10-15 people took shelter inside.
Trees also fell on multiple roads throughout Macon -- including a large one off I-745 south near Hartley Bridge Rd. in south Macon -- that closed streets as crews worked to clean up debris.
Thursday morning, WGXA checked out south Macon again.
Mount Pleasant Church Rd. featured numerous downed trees and power lines. Crews continued to clean up.
Many homes in the area suffered some damage, although no injuries have been reported.
