Crowds gather to honor fallen officers Sgt. Curtis Billue and Sgt. Chris Monica
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- People in Middle Georgia gathered to honor and remember fallen Department of Corrections workers Sgt. Curtis Billue and Sgt. Christopher Monica Friday.
An organization called C.O.P.S. put on an event in Milledgeville to honor their memory.
The organization had family members unveil both Sgt. Billue and Sgt. Monica's names on a mobile wall in front of nearly 100 people.
That crowd consisted of former coworkers, several law enforcement agencies, and state representatives.
Former Warden of Baldwin State Prison Cedric Taylor spoke at that event -- reflecting on the officers lives and their impact on others.
Sgt. Billue and Sgt. Monica were shot to death while transporting prisoners near Eatonton in June.
Two inmates got loose and overpowered them.
Family members say they want to make sure the officers are never forgotten.
