Daybreak in Macon to receive donations from Subaru as part of its Share the Love event
MACON, Ga. -- One local car dealership is doing its part to help put an end to homelessness in Macon.
Subaru of Macon is preparing to kick off its annual Share the Love event, which partners with local charities to raise funds for a great cause.
This year's local partner is DePaul USA's Macon Project Daybreak. Daybreak, a local resource center for people who are homeless or impoverished, was selected by Subaru as the hometown charity because of their work in the community.
According to Daybreak, approximately 50 people secure housing each year and more than 130 individuals receive medical treatment through the organization's free health clinic.
"I can see how it's a blessing for a lot of people, not just myself," said Michael Raines of the Daybreak Center. "Without Daybreak it would be a hard place out here."
During the Share the Love event, which runs from Nov. 16 through Jan. 2, Subaru will donate $250 for each new Subaru vehicle bought or leased at Subaru of Macon.
"We're all very excited about it," said Ken Grinstead, general manager of Subaru of Macon. "A lot of our employees have gone down and actually volunteered down at Daybreak to see what it's all about and the great things Daybreak is doing for the homeless community. And we're encouraging all of our employees to volunteer, not just one time but become a full time volunteer where they can help out."
Customers can choose Daybreak or one of four national charities to receive Subaru's donation.
