Demolition begins on Pleasant Hill homes
MACON, Ga. -- Houses are being torn down in the Pleasant Hill area of Macon.
Demolition started on Tuesday on 19 homes in the neighborhood. The project is part of a Georgia Department of Transportation plan to widen I-75 and improve the I-16 interchange.
Some homes have already been moved out of the area. Matt Ragsdale, a member of the demolition crew, said there could be an added benefit to getting rid of some of the vacant houses.
"By taking down the old buildings and houses, it kind of cleans up the neighborhood," Ragsdale said. "There's less places for crime to happen and nefarious activities and so forth."
The demolition phase should be done Feb. 6.
