UPDATE 12:30 P.M.
MACON, Ga. -- Deputies say a tractor trailer was stopped on I-475 in Macon Thursday morning when another tractor trailer crashed into it, killing one person and injuring three more.
"It was reported that a tractor trailer was disabled and stopped in the middle lane of the Interstate 475," Bibb County Sheriff's Office says in a press release. "The driver of the tractor trailer got out of his vehicle and began work on the tractor trailer. The driver of a Chevrolet Silverado, [a 20-year-old man], pulled in front of the tractor trailer and parked. He got out of his vehicle and attempted to assist the driver of the disabled vehicle."
At this time, a second tractor trailer driven by a 37-year-old Florida man collided with the stopped tractor trailer, continuing on to hit the Chevy Silverado as well.
"A Honda Accord, driven by [a 38-year-old Kathleen woman], was also in the middle lane," deputies say. "Her vehicle struck the trailer of the disabled tractor trailer after the initial accident took place."
The driver of the disabled tractor trailer was pronounced dead at the scene by Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones. The name of that driver cannot be released at this time until the next of kin has been notified.
The drivers of the second tractor trailer and Honda Accord were taken to Navicent Health in stable condition. The driver of the Chevy Silverado was treated and released at the scene.
"The interstate north of Eisenhower Parkway will remain closed until the accident site has been cleared," deputies say.
