Man shot, killed by deputies after Macon gas station robbery identified
MACON, Ga. -- The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Shamir Deangelo Terry, of Macon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office said they are investigating the armed robbery and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
ORIGINAL STORY -- SATURDAY 11 P.M.
MACON, Ga. -- The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting that happened at the Circle K/Shell gas station on Riverside Drive in Macon Saturday night.
According to Bibb County Sheriff David Davis, deputies responded to an armed robbery in progress at the gas station that happened at around 10:30 p.m.
A deputy was parked near the store and was flagged down by witnesses. When that deputy confronted Terry he tried to run away.
According to the GBI, during the chase, a man fired a shot at deputies. Deputies used a taser on him but it didn't work.
Then deputies confronted the man on Pierce Avenue, That's when he pointed his gun at the deputies and they shot him multiple times.
According to Sgt. Linda Howard with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office, the suspect died of his injuries after being taken to Navicent Health Medical Center in Macon.
The Sheriff's Office is not releasing the name of the suspect or the deputies involved at this point. Davis said the suspect has a criminal background and has been arrested before.
They've turned over the investigation to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
No deputies were shot or injured during the shooting.
Although one deputy got into a car wreck while on the way to the scene.
