Dodge Co. teen, 17, arrested after 18-year-old he fought dies from injuries
DODGE CO., Ga. -- A 17-year-old is charged with voluntary manslaughter after the 18-year-old he fought in Dodge Co. in late July died from his injuries on Friday.
According to Special Agent Scott Whitley with the GBI, the 17-year-old turned himself in Monday around noon, as warrants were out for his arrest. He bonded out at $10,000.
Whitley says the 17-year-old and Dakota Rowland, 18, met up to fight each other in the late afternoon of July 25 in Dodge County.
During the fight, the 17-year-old reportedly forced Rowland to the ground and caused a traumatic brain injury. Rowland died from his injuries on Friday.
“You have a young man dead and another man in jail on a serious charge over what was intended to be a fist fight," Whitley said. "People, especially young people, need to realize the law holds that if two people engage in mutual combat, the person who caused the death will be charged with voluntary manslaughter."
