Forsyth, Monroe officials battle fire at Perdue feed mill
MONROE COUNTY, Ga. -- Forsyth's Fire Chief said crews went to a Perdue feed mill Monday evening after getting reports of an explosion and fire.
Fire Chief David Herndon said fire officials with the city of Forsyth and Monroe County were dispatched just before 6:30 p.m.
Herndon said crews put out a fire on the mill's third floor but determined there wasn't an explosion. The fire affected only one section of the mill and was quickly put out, officials said.
No one was injured and "Firefighters did a great job," said Herndon.
Investigators said a mechanical failure caused the fire. According to Herndon, the mill was operating again Tuesday and the fire isn't expected to interrupt any services to local farmers.
