TROUP COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) -The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Lagrange.
The GBI says just before 3 p.m. Thursday, Troup County deputies and Lagrange police officers responded to a call about a woman shot at a home in the 5000 block of Riverside Dr.
When they got to the scene, officers found 68-year-old Sally Harrison dead outside the house.
Troup County investigators say Harrison died from "unknown gunshots," and that her husband reported Harrison was outside with her brother, 65-year-old Sam Burt, when the husband hear three shots and then saw Burt running into the woods with his three dogs.
In gathering information officers began searching for Burt. Officers found Burt on a boat dock and report he was holding a handgun and refused to comply with orders for him to drop his weapon.
According to the Troup County Sheriff's Office, Burt raised his handgun towards them, leading law enforcement to shoot him multiple times. Burt then "fell in the water off the dock."
Troup County says deputies jumped into the water and tried to save Burt's life, but he died on the scene.
The GBI's Medical Examiner's Office will perform autopsies on both of the deceased. The GBI says no officers were injured in the shooting but two dogs died and one dog was hurt.
