Georgia college student killed in shooting
MT. VERNON, Ga. -- A Brewton-Parker College student was shot and killed early Sunday morning at a party on Walker Street in Mt. Vernon, Georgia.
The student, 20-year-old Stevenson Derival, was shot by an unidentified man after a confrontation occurred between the two individuals.
Another Brewton-Parker student, 22-year-old Jabari Bridges of Miami, was also shot during the incident. He sustained non-life threatening injuries.
In a statement posted to the college's Facebook page, President Steve Echols asked for prayers for Derival's family.
"Please pray for the family of Stevenson Derival who passed away early this morning in a tragic off-campus incident," the statement reads. "We are all shocked and broken-hearted to see a friend and student whose life held such promise to be cut short in such a devastating way."
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Mt. Vernon Police Department in investigating the shooting.
