Georgia State Prison inmate indicted on sexual battery, false imprisonment

MACON, Ga. -- Romel Smith, a 38-year-old inmate at Georgia State Prison in Reidsville, has been indicted on two counts of sexual battery, one count of false imprisonment and one count of public indecency.

According to the indictment, Smith is accused of exposing his genitals, touching a prison staffer inappropriately, and keeping the prison staffer from leaving a room.

The incidents occurred when Smith was held at Central State Prison in August 2017.
