Houston Co. hero getting support from community during illness

    HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. -- The Houston County community is rallying behind their fire chief and emergency management director, who was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and is seeking treatment.

    Mandy Stella with the mayor's office confirmed Chief Jimmy Williams' illness and added that he's "been a staple in our community and all our local fire departments (as well as others) want to show love and support for him and his family."

    Fire officials said they want to bring the community together to support Williams and raise donations for his medical treatment.

    Events include:

    • County-wide boot drive (locations all over Houston County) on Friday, November 23
    • Benefit golf tournament on Friday, November 30 at International City Golf Course
    • Benefit ride on Sunday, December 2 (location to be determined)

    The community can also donate to the Jimmy Williams Cancer Fund at Combined Employees Credit Union, located at 593 Russell Pkwy. in Warner Robins.
