HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Elementary school children in Houston County got the chance to compete in the Special Olympics in Thursday.
Around 700 children from the county got to participate in running events, softball throw, standing long jump, and the running long jump.
All of the Special Olympics events were held at the Houston County High School Track, except for the volleyball games, which were held in the high school's gym.
On March 21, middle and high school students will also get a chance to participate in Houston County's Special Olympics.
The Special Olympics is an international nonprofit that aims to help people with disabilities be physically active and healthy. Throughout Georgia, the Special Olympics has 26,460 athletes who are registered, serving those with disabilities in over 180 programs in 120 counties.
