UPDATE: Macon-Bibb committee sends 3 mil increase to commission vote
UPDATE 2:30 P.M.
MACON, Ga. -- The Macon-Bibb County committee approved a millage rate increase proposal of 3 at Thursday's special called meeting. Commissioners will now vote on this at next Thursday's commission meeting.
It passed by a 5-4 vote on Thursday.
Commissioner Elaine Lucas motioned for the 3 mil increase, as you can see here:
The discussion lasted for about two hours on Thursday.
Commissioner Valerie Wynn said the commission does not want to stop funding for Macon Transit Authority and Macon-Bibb libraries -- calling it "cruel and unusual punishment. "

Mayor Robert Reichert also spoke early during the meeting, explaining how if they cannot come to a resolution, the county will go bankrupt:

Funding still remains in question, causing several outside agencies like the Macon Transit Authority and library system to prepare for shutdown.
