Macon community says 'Nobody is Above the Law' at downtown rally
MACON, Ga. -- The Macon-Bibb community took part in a nationwide rally Thursday afternoon at downtown Macon's Rosa Parks Square following President Trump's firing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
Following Sessions' firing, the Department of Justice reportedly put Matthew Whitaker at the head of the DOJ, bypassing the normal succession process that would have put Rod Rosenstein in control of the department.
Organizers said "No one is above the law, not even the President of the United States." Rally participants said they want everyone to know elected officials need to be held accountable to their constituents and constitutional duties.
According to organizers, the President is attempting to protect himself from an uncovering of the truth about Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 US elections.
A Facebook event for the rally said, "To get the truth, an independent investigation must continue. President Trump may have fired Jeff Sessions, but we can't let him shut down the entire independent investigation."
