WARNER ROBINS, Ga. -- A man's 2016 murder conviction for a 1987 shooting death in Warner Robins has been unanimously affirmed by the Georgia Supreme Court.

Willie Winters was convicted of Felony Murder for the January 1987 fatal shooting of Stephen Jones in Warner Robins. Jones was an Airman stationed at Robins AFB at the time of his death.

Winters appealed his murder conviction in late December, but it has been affirmed.

Winters was tried in Houston Superior Court and found guilty in July 2016. He was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole.

Life without parole was not a sentencing option in Georgia in 1987 when the crime occurred.
