Milledgeville elects first African-American woman to mayor's office


MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- Milledgeville voters have elected the first African-American female into the mayor’s office.

Mary Parham-Copelan defeated incumbent Gary Thrower by six votes. The final total was Mary Parham-Copelan with 833 votes and Gary Thrower with 827 votes.

“It’s time for us to make the change, come together and work together to make this happen. I can’t describe the feeling right now," Copelan, mayor-elect of Milledgeville, said.
