Milledgeville soldier found dead off base in Washington after reported missing

JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. — U.S. Army Sgt. Lewis Clay of Milledgeville was found dead Thursday off-base from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, according to WGXA sister station KOMO in Seattle.

According to a release from the Lacey Police Department on July 30, Clay left his residence in Lacey, Washington at 11 p.m. on July 29 and had not been seen since. He was then reported missing.

The release says Clay's family was concerned about "his mental status and well-being."

Clay enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2011 and served in the 8th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment since November 2017.

According to his Facebook page, Clay went to Baldwin High School and Georgia Military College.

His cause of death is under investigation.
