Perry community to enjoy new park as part of city's long-term greenspace initiative
PERRY, Ga. -- Perry city officials announced the community will be getting a new park.
A release from the city said it purchased 61.355 acres from Cherokee Pines Country Club and Fitness Center, Inc. for the project.
Officials said the initiative is part of the city's "long term strategy to add parks, trails and greenspace" for the community.
Councilman Robert Jones started the project after residents in his district brought up the idea to him.
The city of Perry said it wants to make sure that land isn't developed in the future and is committed to providing that area of the city with its first park, which will reportedly feature walking trails, low-impact activities and more.
According to the release, the city is investing almost $6 million in parks and public areas, something that's been encouraged by Perry's growing population.
