BUTTS COUNTY, Ga. -- Butts County deputies are on patrol - Polar Patrol.

The Butts County Sheriff's Office has kicked off an outreach program and will serve ice cream to kids at events to build relationships throughout their community.

The sheriff's office says the Polar Patrol will be at county events like the Independence Day Celebration, Jackson Alive, Halloween on the Square, Back to School Bash, C.H.A.M.P.S. events and more.

Polar Patrol is funded through community donations, and the patrol van was seized from a local drug dealer, deputies say.

Butts County sheriff Gary Long says it's important to him to build community relations and serve those they protect. He hopes that Polar Patrol will help create strong relationships with Butts County youth.

Anyone interested in sponsoring the Polar Patrol program can contact Amanda Mac at 770-775-8216.
