Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning approves storage units, car wash for Zebulon Road

The Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning Commission approved the mini-warehouse and carwash proposal on Zebulon Rd. in north Macon.

The facility was approved at Planning and Zoning's meeting on Monday.

MACON, Ga. - Storage units and a car wash could be coming to a vacant lot on Zebulon Road in Macon.

According to a filing with the Macon-Bibb Planning and Zoning Commission, Cunningham & Company Engineers are proposing mini-warehouses and a tunnel car wash with vacuums at 6405 Zebulon Road. The land is behind a CVS and a Zaxby's restaurant and next to Ansley Village Apartments.

The storage portion of this project includes 235 climate-controlled storage, 266 mini-warehouse storage buildings and a covered storage area for 22 RVs with electrical hook-ups.

The car wash will feature a drive-thru tunnel wash with 36 vacuum spaces and would operate 7 days per week from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. They expect to service 1,400 vehicles per week.

This lot was previously approved for a proposed grocery in 2006, however the proposal never materialized. In 2010, a bowling center and lounge was approved, amid controversy, but that proposal was withdrawn in 2012.

The hearing for the storage units and car wash will be Monday, June 11, 2018.
