Survey: 1 in 5 don't know how to change car tire
MACON, Ga. -- It's National Car Care Awareness Month. AAA released a survey saying many people aren't prepared for roadside safety.
The survey says 1 in 5 people don't know how to change a tire on a car.
Roadside Assistant Technician Jonathan Hooks says he thinks the reason is because people don't feel comfortable getting out of their car on the side of the road.
"In a way, we are here for that too," he said. "To try to help alleviate any kind of danger that may be caused for a pedestrian out there with a flat tire. But it is also important that if you do have a flat tire or something does happen, if at all possible, try to get off the road."
Hooks says if you feel nervous getting out of your car, call a roadside technician. He says they are trained on how to handle dangerous roads and keep everyone safe.
