THURSDAY UPDATE: Soggy weekend for Middle Ga., wintry mix possible
MACON, Ga. - New data Thursday still shows a soggy weekend for Middle Georgia as another multi-inch rain event heads for the mid-state.
Breaking down the weekend, we expect rain to move in to Middle Georgia late Friday night into Saturday morning, especially north of Macon. It's possible that we dry out Saturday afternoon before more rain moves in Saturday night for Sunday. We expect Sunday to be the wettest day of the weekend.
Rain totals will range from 2 to 3 inches for all of Middle Georgia. That amount of rain could renew flood concerns from last weekend, especially south of Macon.
While the widespread rain is the bigger story for this weather system when it comes to Middle Georgia, there does remain a chance for a wintry mix by Monday morning in areas north of Macon.
A wintry mix can feature sleet, snow, freezing rain and rain. We think enough moisture will linger Sunday night into Monday morning north of Macon to produce this chance of a wintry mix. At this time, we do not expect any accumulation or impacts. Temperatures are expected to climb into the 40s to near 50 degrees by Monday afternoon.
Drier weather and sunshine will return Tuesday.
Changes remain likely in this forecast. Stay tuned to WGXA News on-air and online for updates.
