Young scientists get to experiment, network at Georgia College summer program

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- Middle Georgia and Atlanta high school science students showed off what they've been learning at Georgia College's Young Scientists Academy (YSA) on Friday.

The YSA is a summer program that gives young students a chance to experience university-level science labs and research methods.

Eight students representing Bibb, Baldwin, Putnam and Cobb counties have been working on projects like testing cigarette vapors, sol gels and solar cells.

The YSA has been running for eight years and is free to students, who each get a $500-$2,500 stipend. During the program, student learn how create scientific experiments and arguments and network with the science community.

Students also got to tour Georgia College and learn how to apply for higher education.
