TEMPLE, Ga. – The GBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting in northwest Georgia Monday night where a 33-year-old man was shot and killed.
According to the GBI, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a suspicious person with a gun in Temple just after 10:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, deputies were informed that David Willoughby, 33, was armed with either a shotgun or rifle. They located Willoughby in the woods between houses in the neighborhood.
Deputies reported that Willoughby pointed a rifle at them and did not drop his weapon after being given verbal commands, the GBI says. Deputies then fired their weapons, striking Willoughby. His firearm was later examined and found to be a pellet rifle.
Willoughby was transported to the hospital, where he later died. An autopsy is scheduled at the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur.
No officers were injured during the incident.
