Bears falter late to Georgia, lose first game of the season
MACON, Ga. -- The Mercer women's basketball team hasn't beaten the University of Georgia since 1980, a 19-game winning streak that stretched to a 20-gamer on Sunday. Georgia beat Mercer 72-54 at Hawkins Arena in front of a crowd of 2,731.
Mercer jumped out to a 12-7 lead after one quarter of play, but a 25-point barrage by the Dawgs in the second quarter gave Georgia a 32-24 lead heading into the half, a lead they would not relinquish.
Kahlia Lawrence led all scorers with 19 points on 6-of-20 shooting while Sydni Means added seven points, seven assists and two steals in the loss. Georgia's Mackenzie Ingram dominated the game, scoring 14 points and grabbing seven boards.
Mercer (3-1) returns to action on Friday when they take on Western Kentucky in Atlanta for the Georgia State Thanksgiving Classic.
