BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Mercer women's basketball team won their second straight game to begin the 2017-18 season 66-55 over Florida Atlantic University.

The Bears (2-0) trailed the Owls 30-26 at halftime but Mercer would outscore FAU 40-25 in the second half.

Kahlia Lawrence and KeKe Calloway each had 17 points to lead the Bears in scoring while Sydni Means added 14 points and Amanda Thompson logged 10 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.

“Really proud of the way we handled adversity today,” said head coach Susie Gardner. “We didn’t have our best first half so I challenged Amanda and I thought she did an exceptional job of bouncing back in the second half, ending up with a double-double. I have to continue giving credit to Sydni for running the team and getting us in the right sets when they ran different defenses. We got in foul trouble and had a couple of players foul out so we went small with our lineup and battled till the end. This was a really good road trip for us.”

Mercer plays their home-opener on Thursday when they host Georgia Southern at Hawkins Arena.
