The Mercer Mens Basketball team was down double digits for most of the game before they made a big comeback. However, it would not be enough as they fell on the road to Georgia St 62-60. The Bears fall to 1-2 on the year.
Mercer was down 15 at halftime, and as many as 19 at one point in the game before outscoring the Panthers 35-22 in the 2nd half. Ethan Stair led the Bears with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Ross Cummings also had 10 points for Mercer. Head coach Bob Hoffman was proud of his team's effort on Tuesday, even though they came up short in their comeback. "I mean, our teams are never going away. I mean we're coming. We're gonna keep fighting, we're going to keep trying to figure out things that work" said Hoffman. "That's the type of young men we have -- high character guys that are going to battle every second of every day. But I love these guys. I love how they want to win, and they tried with all they had tonight. And I wish I could've just helped them a little more."
For the Panthers, Jeff Thomas led all scorers with 30 points going 11-17 from the field. Warner Robins native Nelson Phillips had 5 rebounds in 18 minutes for Georgia State.
Up next, Mercer will host UT Martin at Hawkins Arena on Friday night. Tipoff is slated for 7 pm.
