Mercer Baseball falls to Georgia Tech at home

Things started great for the Mercer Baseball team on Tuesday night at home against Georgia Tech. However, midway through the contest, things hit a sour note. The Yellow Jackets had a offensive outburst that let to a 16-8 victory. Its the Bears first loss to a team from the state of Georgia in 2018. Georgia Tech is now 20-13 on the season, and Mercer 26-9.

The Bears got the scoring going early in the second inning when Jordan Ammons hit a 2 run double. That was followed by a Alex Hanson 2 run single to give them a 4-0 lead. Georgia Tech tied the game in the 5th off a Kyle McCann grand slam. Le Bassett gave the Bears the lead in the bottom of the 5th with a RBI single. The Yellow Jackets would take over from there. They took the lead in the 6th off a error and a bases loaded hit by pitch. They got 4 runs in the 7th, 2 in the 8th, and 4 more in the 9th. Georgia Tech had 16 hits and left 15 on base. Mercer had 4 errors on the night that all led to Yellow Jacket runs.

Up next, Mercer will head to Samford to start a 3 game series. First pitch will be on Friday at 7 pm.
