MACON, Ga. -- It was closer than they would have liked, but a win is a win. Mercer beat Samford on Saturday afternoon 48-45 to improve to 23-2 overall and 10-0 in conference play as well as their 20th straight win.

The win did not come without struggles. The Bears only shot 31 percent in the game and Mercer's leading scorer Kahlia Lawrence shot 28 percent in the contest. KeKe Calloway led the Bears with 18 points but shot 33 percent from the field.

While their offense struggled the Bears' defense rose to the challenge forcing 19 turnovers and holding the Bulldogs to 38 percent shooting. Samford entered the game as the best three-point shooting team in the conference but only managed to hit two of 16 three-point attempts in the game, including a three that would have tied the game as time expired.

Mercer looks for the 21st consecutive win on Thursday when they travel to Western Carolina.
