Mercer Softball season comes to a end in SoCon Tournament
The 2018 Mercer Softball season came to a end on Friday afternoon in Greensboro, NC. The Bears fell to Samford 10-6 in the losers bracket of the Southern Conference Touranment. They end the year at 33-19.
The Bulldogs jumped on the board quickly getting 2 runs in the 1st and 2 more in the 3rd to take a 4-0 lead. The Bears got one back in the bottom of the 3rd off a double steal that scored Shalia Warren. Mercer added another in the bottom of the 4th when a error allowed Emma Andrew to score to cut the lead to 4-2. Samford scored 4 runs in the top of the 5th to make it 8-2. Caroline Taylor added a solo home run in the bottom of the 5th, then Andrew added a RBI single to make it 8-4. The Bulldogs added 2 more in the top of the 6th. Meghan Rud hit a 2 run homer in the bottom of the 6th, but the Bears were unable to make the comeback.
Taylor's home run gave her the school's record for home runs in a season (16) and in a career (48). The Bears had their 2nd 30 win season since joining the Southern Conference.
