Baxter stepping up at Southwest

Marquez Baxter is a member of one of the best linebacking corps in Middle Georgia. Learning everything he can from his fellow teammates. "Its fun, we come out and compete against each other every day and make each other better. I get a drill wrong, he get a drill wrong and we teach each other how to get it better" said Baxter.

Baxter might be the most quiet of the group, but his head coach certainly noticed his play. "He's a student of the game. He works hard. He's made a committment to this team and to himself to have a good year this year" said head coach Joe Dupree." He's stepping up into a senior leadership role and I'm so proud of him for doing that. We are excited to watch him play on Friday nigtht."

Marquez is a model player on the field, and a model citizen off of it. Being a great leader in every walk of life. "He's a good kid. Other than football, he's a great kid off the field and that makes him special to me because football is just a part of their life and I try to teach them that. He does a good job in the classroom and on the field."

He has already committed to Akron next season. Fulfilling his dream to play college football. "Since I came to high school, my first thought was to play division I football. Execute in the offseason, get in the weights off the field. All of that."

Before his time with the Zips, Baxter still has something left to accomplish at Southwest, and the biggest, is turning the Patriots into a legitimate contender. "1st round playoffs, can't be satisfied with that. Got to go deeper in the playoffs. Deeper and deeper."
